Did They Do Away With Love Ballads??
I just don’t hear any new ones as often as before. Seems like everything is either pertaining to sex (which is great), killing, smoking, drinking, dealing, cheating, scheming, or addressing some haters…
No love though…unless I’m not aware of the recent love ballads out there…
There’s some, but across all genres, love ballads just aren’t done the same as they used to be. Who’s writing or singing ballads like Think Twice and The Power of Love by Celine Dion, I will Always Love You by Whitney Houston/Dolly Parton, I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston, Always, Bed of Roses, I’ll Be There for You, and This Ain’t a Love Song by Bon Jovi, End of The Road and I’ll Make Love to You by Boyz II Men, Unbreak my Heart by Toni Braxton, Kiss from a Rose by Seal, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith?
Songwriting and ballads specifically have just taken a tumble over the past 10 or more years. In the songs I mentioned, the writers of these songs spilled themselves all over the page. The actual technique was great too but what’s really lacking is the intensity, the energy coming up through the stomach and coating the page.
